Replacing Worry with Prayer

January 3, 2024

The Bible says we shouldn’t worry, yet most people still struggle with worry.

Maybe you think, “isn’t that a bit unrealistic? I could name a dozen things I worry about every day, and they aren’t just going to go away.”

And, it’s true. There is a lot we could worry about. And, a lot of the problems we could worry about aren’t just going to go away. They’re real problems. They’re real-life issues that have to be faced.

But, worry isn’t the answer. Jesus said,  “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27). You see, worry doesn’t solve anything. Worry has never changed a situation for good.

Okay, so what DO we do with these very real problems that we aren’t supposed to worry about, then?

The Bible tells us exactly what to do. It’s simple, but it makes ALL the difference.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.” (Philippians 4:6)

Replace your worry with prayer. The command isn’t just, “Don’t worry.” You must have that second part, prayer. Instead, pray about everything.

God invites us to cast our worries and anxieties on him. HE can take the weight of them, we can’t. In 1 Peter 5:7 the Bible says, “God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him” (CEV). God wants us to take our problems to him, to pray instead of worrying.

And, let me assure you, no problem is too big for God’s power or too small for God’s concern. Philippians 4:6 says, we should pray about everything.

God has never promised to remove in this life all our troubles, problems, and difficulties. But God has promised, to be WITH YOU in your troubles, problems and difficulties. Only he can sustain you and give you peace and comfort and even joy during those times.

I encourage you to turn to God and cast your worries on him. Go to him in prayer, and he will give you peace and a sense of security in all circumstances.
