Letting the Peace of Christ Rule in Your Heart

Oct 22, 2026

Between the demands of everyday life, everything happening on the news, and difficult circumstances outside of our control, it’s easy to lose our sense of peace.

But God offers us something the world cannot. He offers wants us to experience peace. In fact, Jesus offers us three different kinds of peace when we follow him.

First - Peace with God. This is spiritual peace, and it’s the most important because it affects every other area of our lives. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:18 that God “sent Christ to make peace between himself and us” (CEV).

God never intended for us to live disconnected from Him. And peace with God isn’t something we earn through good behavior or religious activities. It comes through what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross. Through Jesus, we can be forgiven, reconciled to God, and restored to a relationship with Him.

When we have peace with God, we have the foundation for a life transformed by His love and grace.

Second - Peace within. The Bible calls this the peace of God. When we have peace with God, we can experience the peace of God in our hearts. Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (NIV).

Notice that this verse doesn’t say we’ll only experience peace when everything in our lives is going well. God’s peace isn’t dependent on our circumstances (thank goodness, right?) We can experience His peace even when we’re facing uncertainty, disappointment, or challenges we don’t understand.

The world around us may be filled with conflict and uncertainty, but we don’t have to let those things rule our hearts. We can allow the peace of Christ to guide our thoughts, calm our fears, and remind us that we are never alone.

Third - Peace with others. God also wants us to experience peace in our relationships. Ephesians 2:16 explains that through His death on the cross, Jesus reconciled us to God and put our hostility toward one another to death (NLT).

Our relationships can be some of the greatest sources of joy in our lives, but they can also be sources of hurt, frustration, and conflict. When we allow God to work in our hearts, He changes the way we respond to others. He teaches us to extend grace, offer forgiveness, listen with compassion, and love even when it’s difficult.

If you want to strengthen your relationships with others, start by strengthening your relationship with God. As you grow closer to Him and become more like Christ, it can transform the way you love and relate to the people around you.

Of course, we can’t control how others respond, and peace doesn’t mean ignoring unhealthy behavior or pretending conflict doesn’t exist. Romans 12:18 tells us, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

God wants you to experience all three kinds of peace: peace with Him, peace within yourself, and peace with others.

Whatever you’re facing today, you can turn to Him. Let Him restore your relationship with Him, quiet your anxious heart, and teach you how to bring peace into your relationships.
