As humans, we’re all prone to anxiety and worry.
Worry is often our attempt to control what we can’t control, but trust is surrendering control to God (the one who is really in control in the first place).
Think of it this way. Imagine for a moment that a worry is a heavy burden you’re carrying on your back — like a backpack filled with rocks. Each anxious thought is another stone tossed in, and over time it becomes exhausting just to stand, let alone move forward.
Wishing it away won’t solve the problem, nor will simply hoping the burden grows lighter. But suppose you meet someone who’s obviously stronger than you, and he offers to take the burden off your back and carry it for you. What would you do? It would be foolish to keep carrying that anxiety; instead, you’d gladly hand it over to him.
And that’s exactly what God invites us to do with our burdens. He invites us to hand them over to Him in faith and trust.
The Bible says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Notice that it doesn’t say some of your anxiety or just the “big” issues, but all. Nothing is too small to bring before God.
So today, whatever anxieties you’re carrying, don’t shoulder them alone.
How do you “give your anxieties to God?” The Bible tells us to pray about it, tell God about it.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Don’t you want his peace in your life? Are you willing to give up your worry in exchange for his peace? You can’t have both.
You have to cast your anxieties onto him. You have to trust him and stop trying to control everything.
I encourage you to hand over your worries to the One who is strong enough, loving enough, and faithful enough to carry them for you. In exchange, you’ll discover the gift of His unshakable peace.
